I don’t know enough about, or have enough involvement in, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict to have an opinion about the pullout, but this snippet had an impact.
“This is a stupid order,†a man in Morag yelled at an Israeli army commander, who responded by hugging the settler.
“For God’s sake, you are a Jew. You are my brother,†another man yelled.
The army commander hugged and kissed that settler too…
There have been so many touching stories like this one coming from Gaza during this pullout. The Israeli Army has shown remarkable discipline and self-restraint under the circumstances. And it’s so inspiring to see occupation come to an end. People are extremely excited and optimistic about it here in Lebanon, where people have been celebrating and passing out candies in the streets.
One hopes that the Gaza withdrawal will be followed with a resumption of the “road map†peace process. As most Europeans have rightly pointed out, resolving this 57-year conflict will go a long way toward reducing Arab/Muslim angst and therefore reducing the appeal of terrorism.
While i saw nothing but goodness coming from the Withdrawal in the Gaza; some people still see the cloud in every silver lining.
A cnn PUNDIT SAW THIS WITHDRAWAL AS AN ATTEMPT BY THE ISRAELIS TO CREATE A POWER STUGGLE WITHIN THE RANKS OF THE PALESTINIANS.
I MAY BE OVER SIMPLIFYING THINGS WHEN I SAY, I , LIKE MOST PEOPLE, KNEW AT A YOUNG AGE THAT WAR IS NOT THE WAY TO FIND LASTING SOLUTIONS. wE HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS OUTSIDE OF RACIAL AND NATIONAL DIFFERENCES, E.G. THE POLLUTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT, THE NATURAL CYCLE OF THE ENVIRONMENT THAT WILL SOMEDAY BRING ANOTHER ICE AGE, NASA’S BELIEF THAT WE WILL BE HIT BY A DEVESTATING ASTROID IN THE NEXT 500 YEARS, THE FIGHT AGAINST GERMS THAT IS CURRENTLY LOOKING GOOD BUT WE KNOW THAT THE LITTLE BUGGERS ARE MUTATING, POSSIBLE LIFE ON OTHER PLANETS, THE EVENTUAL BURN OUT OF OUR STAR.
WHILE IT IS HARD FOR US TO LOOK AT THESE FAR AWAY EVENTS AS HAVING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PRICE OF GASOLINE, THEY ARE ALL PRESSING IN THAT WE HAVE MADE LITTLE HEAD WAY.
OKAY, MY POINT IS THIS. PEACE IS A NO BRAINER, AND THE RESULT IF WE DO NOT REALIZE IT IS A NO BRAINER TOO. WE MUST INCLUDE EVERYONE IF WE WISH FOR PEACE, AND IF THE ISREALIS AND PALESTINIANS CAN WORK TOWARDS IT, I PROMISE I WILL TRY TO BURY THE HATCHET WITH THE MARYLANDERS. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE TWO OF MY FAVORITE GIRLS ARE MOVING TO THAT GOD FORSAKEN STATE.
ALSO IT SEEMS UNLIKELY THAT THEY WILL CONVERT THE ENTIRE STATE INTO THE ABOVE GROUND POOOL AS I HAD SUGGESTED IN COUNTLESS LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
